The School’s Mission Statement is: “Nicholson Syrian Girls’ Higher Secondary School and Training Home” endeavours to prepare each student to be self reliant, self disciplined and empowered through excellence in curricular, co curricular as well as extra curricular activities with confidence and competences imperative to carve their niche and make a mark in the world at large”. In other words, the school’s mission is to create a community of empowered and diverse competent mature learners with a balanced stronghold in traditional and modern Indian values who will bloom into globally and locally competitive successful personnel to take on the challenges in higher education and thereafter in the realm of social, political, academic, personal, economic, professional, familial, spiritual or any other arena as per their choice. The school aims at grooming the pupils who enter its portals in an atmosphere of christian fellowship, mutual respect, understanding and trust.

Vision

The school’s vision is to provide a cutting edge academic programme with state of the art infrastructure and facilities to the pupils irrespective of their socio – economic background along the lines of the best practices in education. It strives to facilitate students to acquire not only an excellent education but also ample opportunity for personal discipline and growth in a rich Indian context. This is what sets the school apart in the growing milieu of a multitude of schools in the country in the present context. The school focuses on providing a holistic inclusive education and development programme.

Goals

The school focuses on the major goals emanating from its mission and vision. These include:

Commitment to Mission

The administration, staff and students are committed to this mission and converge their efforts together to achieve excellence in all endeavours, be it academic, co-curricular or extra-curricular and to make education at NS a wholesome and enjoyable experience.

The underlying philosophy of the school to provide an excellent education programme without losing sight of simple living, spiritual enlightenment, self reliance, self discipline, equality, mutual trust and respect amongst other Indian tradition and enduring values sets the school apart from others.

The school that was started as a residential school still remains so. The pupils are to live in the school as in their homes, feeling they are all equal in their rights and privileges. Jewelry is not allowed at school and the dress is simple and plain. No one can keep clothes in box and after emptying clothes into a small cupboard, box is sent back home. The cupboards are not kept locked. Mutual trust is the key of living in the boarding and the school. Every one is to have an equal number of dresses, bed sheets, night dress, bath towels, pillows and even same kind of mats to sleep on. Every one is to do things by themselves right from getting up in the morning till going to bed in the night. The seniors and the girls in V and VI Forms help and look after the juniors in the Preparatory and First Form.

The guiding spirit of the institution is: ‘It is in losing oneself and keeping to the background and pushing others to the front that one finds oneself’. This is exemplified by the great act of Miss. McKibbin who donated generously to the school but who kept the name of the school after Mrs. Nicholson who realized the need for a school for the Syrian girls of Travancore and who initiated efforts in establishing the same.
